About Me After moving from a house to a townhouse with a small
rooftop deck (and having a While developing content for an environmental newsletter as part of my day job as an environmental educator (www.nsrp.bc.ca - site is currently under redevelopment - don't mind the mess!), I came across some people that would forever change my relationship with my much maligned rooftop deck. They were growing the most amazing, unique and delicious vegetables, fruits and herbs in the smallest, most unlikely places. And they'd learned how to do it by trial and error, and from each other. But what they didn't have was a user-friendly, complete guide to show beginner small space gardeners how to do the same thing -- beginner gardeners who are busy professionals living in condos, apartments and townhouses; busy people who love fresh, organic gourmet produce but don't have the time to be fiddling around for hours every week in the dirt. Or the room to even have dirt (or so they think). So, after looking high and low for such a guide -- one that included planning sheets, reference guides, plant recommendations and interesting tips and ideas, as well as all the information you just don't find in the regular books - it didn't seem like anyone else was serving this growing group of city dwellers either. So I decided to do something about it -- and Gardening on the Edge was born. If you eventually buy the ebook, or sign up for the newsletter, I hope you find it as fun and interesting to use and I did writing and researching it. It's definitely been a labour of love... About MeI live with my partner and young son in a 1000 square foot townhouse in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. My garden is what I calls an 'urban gourmet experiment' -- a fun work in progress that sometimes isn't so pretty, but always a feast for the senses. When I'm not inspecting cucumber leaves, snipping basil or brewing compost tea, you can find me hanging out by a local stream with my almost 5-year old son, soaking up information on localizing our food and growing it sustainably, or sitting in front of my computer (usually the latter!). I've been involved with the One Straw Society (which promotes sustainable agriculture on the Sunshine Coast, my hometown), run two small marketing & copywriting businesses (Dakota Creek Design and Kaboom Creative [website to come at www.kaboomcreative.ca]), and my days are spent designing education programs and guides on natural yard care, composting, chemical free gardening and garbage & recycling issues for the North Shore Recycling Program in North Vancouver (www.nsrp.bc.ca). 'Gardening on the Edge' is my first ebook. |
